Blue Grass
Fundamentals are underglazes that are shaken before use and applied to clay, leather-hard ware, or bisque with a brush. Colors can be mixed with each other or combined with other glazes. Depending on the thickness of the application, you can achieve a watercolor effect (1 layer) to fully opaque coverage (3-4 layers). They can be fired at 1044°C and 1207°C - 1280°C with possible color and texture variations at temperatures above 1044°C (see the information tab). The examples are made on white clay and fired at 1044°C with NTBR clear glaze applied. Test firing is recommended.
For clear glazes, NT-BR (glossy), S2101 (glossy), C300 (matte) are recommended for earthenware, and SW-001, SW-004, or HF-9 (up to 1240°C) are recommended for stoneware. Always test first when using another clear glaze. The glaze becomes food safe in combination with clear glaze.
Mayco Fundamentals® Underglazes have been formulated to mature at cone 1000-1040°C. However most will maintain their color at higher temperatures. Their performance at stoneware is noted on each individual product label. We recommend testing on your clay body and in your kiln prior to use. Mayco Fundamentals® Underglazes are highly versatile and can be used for complete coverage or in design, applied to clay or bisque, and have a broad firing range.
