Description
Amaco's Velvet Underglaze should be shaken before use and applied in 1-3 layers with a soft brush. They can be fired at 1044°C (Cone 05) or between 1207°C (Cone 5) and 1280°C (Cone 10) with color and texture variations (see images). The examples on our website are made on white clay and fired at 1044°C with LG-10 clear glaze on one half of the tile. Without a clear glaze, underglazes are not food-safe. For a glossy clear glaze at stoneware temperatures, HF-9 or SW-004 is recommended. Test firings are recommended before application in production.
Information
The high pigmentation, reliability, and versatility make Velvets equally popular among professionals, hobbyists, and children. Velvets fire with vibrant colors as a Cone 05/06 underglaze or at Cone 6 to Cone 10, where the color may be affected.
Try two different methods: If Velvets are left unglazed, they achieve a rich velvet texture; when covered with AMACO Clear Transparent Matte or Clear Gloss, the color intensifies. Easily applied to wet clay, leather-hard, or bisque-fired ware.
