Opal Lustre - Dry 4,5 kg
Description
Stoneware glaze for dipping. Fires between 1200 °C and 1300 °C (cone 5 to 10). Can be sprayed and used for oxidation, reduction, among others. Since clays can vary and have different properties, we recommend testing the glaze on a small piece of the clay you intend to use. The bag contains powder to be mixed with water according to the instructions. Non-toxic.
Stoneware classic glazes offer the depth, sophistication, and reliability to artists working from mid-range to high-fire temperatures. Many glazes will break over textures, revealing secondary colors and shades. Used alone, stoneware glazes produce beautiful color variations. One coat will allow the clay body to show through the glaze and two to three coats deepen the color. The choice of clay body, thickness of glaze application, firing process, and temperature will affect the fired finish.
Note: Due to varying results, Mayco has conducted extensive testing on SW-219. This product has a wide range of variations. The clay body, application, firing process, and temperature all influence the firing result. They recommend testing at Cone 5 (1222°C/2232°F) with no hold time in a lightly loaded kiln on a textured white stoneware clay body. If you cannot test and/or accept varying results, they advise against using this glaze. If you are not satisfied with the results, you can combine this glaze with other Mayco glazes.

Information
Cone 6 oxidation (larger image): Opal Lustre is a glossy, semi-opaque glaze that displays variegated shades of blues, greens, and purples. Breaks warm brown over texture.
Cone 10 reduction (smaller image): Color flattens, and warm undertones come through.
TIP: This glaze is semi-fluid at 3 coats. Additional coats or increased application thickness may result in movement. Can be used in oxidation or reduction firings. Results may vary. The choice of clay body, thickness of application, firing process, and temperature will greatly affect the fired results. Always test your application on your clay body in your kiln environment.
Safety
Can be irritating, harmful to health, and environmentally hazardous.
