Steel Metallic
Description
Steel Metallic
Magic Metallics™ from Mayco can be applied to almost any paintable surface: glass, wood, fabric, styrofoam, paper, ceramics, etc. Magic Metallics™ is not a pretend painting process but an actual layering of metallic particles.
They can be used separately or together with Patina and Rapid Rust (oxidizers) with which you can create beautiful scarred and rusted surfaces in just a few hours, which would otherwise take nature years to achieve. These metallic acrylics can be mixed to create an infinite variety of metallic colors; Magic Metallics can also be mixed with other acrylics.
Magic Metallics™ Patina and Rapid Rust have an oxidizing effect on Magic Metallic metallic acrylics. Copper, gold and dark bronze will take on a patinated green/brown appearance when treated with MM-202 Green Patina. Steel will rust when treated with MM-305 Rapid Rust. The oxidizers (Patina and Rapid Rust) are used as catalysts to speed up the natural process.
Information
Shake well and often before use - the metal particles will sink to the bottom. The surface should be completely clean, dry and free of dust. The inside of hollow objects should be sealed before applying the metals. Porous surfaces should be sealed with an acrylic paint before applying Magic Metallics™. Apply a base coat of the metallic finish. Allow to dry. Apply a second coat. If you want a patina or rust finish (steel only), apply the appropriate oxidizer while the second coat is still wet and slightly tacky. You can use a brush, sponge or spirit bottle to apply oxidizing liquids. As the solution dries, the patina will develop. Once the desired effect is achieved, remove excess moisture with a paper towel, hair dryer or fan. The metals will continue to oxidize as long as they are exposed to water or oxidizing liquids. Seal with DS60 or DS124 Matte Sealer (DecoArt) to prevent further oxidation.
If the patina does not turn out well, you have either not stirred the paint properly or applied too thin layers. Just repeat the procedure.
